Packing List

Each student is allowed one primary luggage piece (to be stored under the bus when traveling), a small backpack/bag/purse for personal items, and his/her instrument. Multiple changes of clothes are not necessary as we will not return to the hotel each day except after our performance. Every student needs his/her instrument with all necessary supplies (rosin, strings, rock stop, etc). Cases must be labeled with student name and “Oak Ridge High School”. Directors will bring our music. Students should pack for the following activities in addition to personal grooming items. A hair dryer and iron/ironing board is provided in each hotel room.

Students will wear jeans and black orchestra T-shirts / red choir T-shirts for travel on Thursday. We will not arrive at the hotel until after dinner at Medieval Times. Hang up your uniform as soon as you arrive in your hotel room.

Bring your complete formal uniform. For ladies, this is the long black dress worn with black dress shoes and minimal jewelry. Hair should be worn away from the face and nails must be trimmed and pale. Undergarment straps should not be noticeable/visible.

For gentlemen, this is the complete tuxedo: pants, jacket, white tuxedo shirt, cummerbund, and bowtie. Please check to be sure students can locate their bowties! Undershirts, if worn, must be plain and white with no writing, logo, or design on them. Black dress shoes and black dress socks that come up to the calf are required with the tuxedo. 

Please note: the orchestra is out of bowties! Students must replace lost bowties before Thursday; they can be purchased at Al’s Formal Wear. Al’s Formal Wear is located on the lower level of The Woodlands Mall just outside Macy’s. Student bowties are less than $10. 


Change of clothes for remainder of day, including theater:

The remainder of the day is a brief photo opportunity, dinner at Hard Rock Cafe and a theater performance of “Beauty and the Beast” through Broadway Across America. This performance is in the Dallas Opera venue in the theater district downtown. It is similar to our own Jones Hall, Hobby Center, and Wortham Theater. Appropriate dress is expected. There is no return to the hotel a second time to change for dinner and the theater. Thus, students must be appropriately dressed when we change clothes after our performance.

Jeans, shorts, flip flops, and/or athletic shoes are absolutely not permitted for the theater performance! Boys are expected to wear collared shirts (button up or polo). All students are expected to be neatly dressed and represent Oak Ridge High School well.   If students wish to take dress shoes on the bus and change shoes, they may wear shoes more suitable for walking while at the Galleria and out for the day.

Bring comfortable clothes and shoes for a day at the Aquarium and Six Flags. The expected high on Saturday is approximately 85and it is expected to be sunny. Bring sunscreen and reapply it frequently! We will not be at a water park, but if you plan to enjoy rides where passengers get wet, bring something to keep your cell phones dry! Shorts and sleeveless tops are permitted but should be modest.

Bring casual clothes suitable for visiting a museum and restaurant that will be comfortable for the return trip on the bus.


Additional items:

Every student needs a cell phone (charged and working) or wrist watch to keep time. Students without cell phones must be with another student who has a cell phone to be aware of any text messages sent by directors.


Students may bring personal audio/video equipment for the bus. Out of respect for other passengers, personal headphones must be used with these items. Any movies to be shared on the bus must be rated PG-13 or lower.


Don’t forget to pack chargers for your electronic devices!


Students will need spending money for snacks and souvenirs. Admission to all activities and meals are included in the cost of the trip.


There will be NO time spent at the hotel pool, so please do NOT pack your swimsuits!
