Aug 29-Sept 2 Weekly Updates!

We hope you all are enjoying the start to your three-day weekend! Congratulations to the ORHS Football team for winning against Elkins last night at the first home game of the season.

Here are a couple things to look for in the next week or so:

  1. District Audition Entry due Friday September 9 – the directors have to meet a deadline by Friday to submit students who will be auditioning for the first round of the TMEA All-State Choir process. We will be asking in class Tuesday and Wednesday if you will be auditioning for the final time. If you still think you want to do it but feel like you haven’t given yourself enough time to practice, you can actually learn all three of these songs in 11 days! We are still 21 days away from the actual audition. Do not hesitate to ask for help! Every Tuesday and Thursday there is district music rehearsals from 2:45-3:45pm.
    • There is a $25 District Music Workshop hosted by The Woodlands HS on Saturday, September 10. Mrs. Summers will be one of the section leaders. You can find more information about it and register online here: TWHS District Music Workshop Registration
  2. Choir Fee Due Date – We will continue to take choir fees if you have not paid them through Friday, September 9. If you are wanting to pay them online, they are currently loaded as a class fee, NOT as a webstore item like we had originally planned. To access your student’s account, go to www.orhswebstore.com and follow the login instructions on the main page. Once you’ve logged into your child’s account, the class fee should have been applied to your account. If you cannot see it, please let either Mr. Smith or Mrs. Summers know. After September 9, we will put you on a payment plan that will best fit your financial schedule.
  3. Choir Dress Fittings – The women of the ORHS Choir have been getting sized by either the uniform officers or Mrs. Summers. We should be completing the sizing for their choir dresses by the end of the week and distributing dresses for the kids to take home the following week. We will be bringing in a guest seamstress who is willing to hem dresses for $15 on Friday, September 16 after school from 3:00-5:00pm. She will mark your dress where it needs to be hemmed properly and when she has completed hemming the dresses, you will need to pay her directly. This cost is not included in the choir fee, as some students may not be needing their dress hemmed.
    • Some students might be getting new dresses, and they will know once we finish getting students sized. The students with new dresses will get a chance to get their dresses hemmed by this seamstress on a later date.
  4. DisneyWorld Deposits – Thank you to the eager students who wanted to turn in the deposit for DisneyWorld literally 11 hours after the meeting. Our financial secretary needs us to wait a few more days before we can start turning in deposits. Once we get the OK from her, we will send out a Remind message saying that they’re ready for you. Thanks for your enthusiasm!
  5. Voice Lessons – We had a very special guest perform for 4 of the 5 choirs on Thursday and Friday. Her name is Mrs. Lindsay Russell Bowden, and she is a professional opera singer who also lives in Chateau Woods and teaches lessons around the area. She is available for lessons, and we have a flyer posted in the choir room. Here is her information below, and we would love to have more students interested in taking voice lessons during the school day. Please contact her at your convenience! Her website is www.lindsayrussellsoprano.com if you’d like to learn more about her education and performances.

Have a great weekend, and we will see you all on Tuesday/Wednesday!
